Although I was born and raised in Santiago de Chile, I consider myself "araucanian" (from somewhere in Araucanía) in a broad sense. My first last name is Cañulef, which is the composition of two words in mapudungun; Caniu (crest) and lef (swift). It is pronounced similarly to the english words can-you-left. My second last name (Aguilar) is hispanic and its meaning can be interpreted as "a place where eagles live". Coincidentally my two last names make reference to birds, despite they have a completely different origin.
